Having your car broken into is one of the most stressful experiences any driver can go through, and if you’ve had it happen to you, it’s definitely not something you want to have to go through again anytime soon. Between the anxiety of having your property violated and the financial burden of having to replace any stolen items and repair your car, it can be a stressful process. Thankfully, while there is no way to guarantee that it will never happen to you, there are some steps you can take to prevent your chances of your car being broken into so your car and valuables will be protected.
Be Mindful of Where You Park
Where you end up parking your car can actually play a huge factor in your chances of being the victim of a break-in. The best places to park will always be well-lit, covered, and protected areas like parking garages and parking decks. But if you only have access to street parking, try and park in the most lit section of the street, closest to your destination.
Hide and Cover Up All Your Valuables
If a potential thief can’t see anything worth stealing from view of the windows, they’re less likely to try and break into your car. So if you ever have valuables, always make sure they’re covered and hidden away from view, either under a seat or in your trunk.
Always Lock Your Doors
Though this tip might seem obvious, you’d be surprised how many car break-ins happen simply due to a door being left unlocked! Many potential thieves won’t want to go through the trouble of smashing a window to get into your car, so by simply double and triple checking that your doors are locked, you can prevent many break-ins! So always make sure to lock your doors and roll up any windows to keep your car safe!
